Your Free Gift – 3 Steps
1 – LTV
The first and most important step that affects your marketing as it relates to profits is determining your Lifetime Value of a Customer. This is just as it sounds. As it relates to profit, how valuable is the average customer to you over the life of your business.
Knowing the LTV of a customer enables you to make decisions regarding marketing budgets and you can create an “acquisition advantage”. Three things that influence that lifetime value are your product, service, and type of marketing. The manner in which these three affect the lifetime value is explained below:
Product – Obviously your main product plays a significant role. If it is a good product, customers remain loyal which increases the LTV. An important question to ask yourself is this, “Is there another product or service that I can sell to the same customer to earn more profit and also to keep them as a loyal customer for my other products?”
Figure out what can you do or what else can you sell to keep your existing customers happy, in front of your other products, and increase your average customer spend?
Service/Follow-up – Bad service equals no loyalty and less lifetime value. Good service can equal a longer lifetime but there is more. Follow-up with customers even when there is no sale to be made and they stay loyal longer. It is imperative to collect contact information from all customers and implement a follow-up system. Call them on their birthday, about special events, etc, and keep your brand in front of them with something more than just sales pitches.
Type of marketing/communication – Some marketing is in your face. It is meant to drive a quick sale. This leads to less relationship driven sales and results in a shorter lifetime for that customer. The opposite is also true…relationship driven marketing can start the customer/business relationship off based on long-term thinking, which can result in a longer lifetime.
Connect with your potential customers/existing customers using value-driven messages and you will be rewarded. Give them a reason to stay connected to you even at the moment that they are not buying…then when they are ready to buy, they come to you. Remember, they buy on their time…NOT YOURS.
Once you learn how to increase your average LTV of a customer it offers you a major advantage over all your competition. You can outspend them to acquire customers (acquisition advantage). This gives you an advantage that the competition is unable to overcome…it is just not possible.
Increasing your LTV allows you to always win against the competition and if you are a smaller company, increasing your LTV allows you to beat companies with bigger budgets.
2 – Be Easily Referrable
Being referrable means good products, good service, and communication with your customers…but does that make you easily referrable?
NO it doesn’t.
Sure…you will get referrals based on those elements but is it easily referrable? Their is a difference between referrable and easily referrable.
Referrable = good service, good products, communication.
Easily Referrable = everything from Referrable plus providing value to your customers that entices or influences them to refer others to you easily…such as the “Share”, “Like”, or “Suggest” button on Facebook or adding social buttons to your website, blog posts, or email newsletters.
There is no better marketing today than one of your customers telling one of their friends how great you are. Make it easy for them.
Create content and communications using blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube and make it easy for your customers to click the “Share” button and send your content with thousands of their friends…INSTANTLY.
3 – Take Action
Avoid paralysis of analysis and get started using effective online marketing immediately. Communicate with your existing customers and be easily referrable starting today. One of your customers may refer one of their friends to someone else today. Why wait until tomorrow? One of your customers may “Like” one of your competitors funny videos on Facebook and 3,478 of their friends learn more about your competitor. Why wait until tomorrow?
With the speed of today’s communication because of online buttons such as “Like” and “Share”, it is critical to take action immediately before one of your competitors is communicating with hundreds of your customers and potential customers.
No matter what your business model is, there are people searching on the internet for your industry, products, and services, right now.
Will they find you?
To Your Success,
Kenny Atcheson
